It was a very scary scenario when this dog, Rylee, slipped into Lake Michigan in Illinois, United States, over the weekend, but the resourceful canine managed to swim 6 miles and walk 19 miles to find her home and is now safe.

Rylee’s humans, Edward Casas and his wife Kristin, chose to go sailing on their boat for a bit on the lake to spend some quality time together.

Rylee allegedly fell overboard when Casas was troubleshooting a technical issue and his wife was in charge of steering, according to Casas.

When Casas saw the puppy was missing, he immediately issued a distress call on the boat’s radio. Later, they got in touch with a number of support centers, including the coast guard team that spent hours looking for Rylee without success.

“There was a technical issue. We left to fix it for about ten minutes, and when we came back, it had been fixed. Neither the boat nor the ocean contained her.

Thanks to a friend of Casas’s named Lynn Fiedor, who is the administrator of the Lost Dog Search Team Facebook page, which is dedicated to helping all lost dogs find their families, a request was made for assistance in locating Rylee.
